Rant first, so if you want to skip that, feel more than free :D

I have noticed a lot of hate on deviantART lately surrounding the topic of post processing a photo via Photoshop. I assume the people referring to it so hatefully are simply unaware of what they are truly accusing people of doing.

Let me just say something about this, first of all.

Photography is an art. It is expression. It is very personal.

Second of all, in a technical view, if you shoot RAW, your photo needs a certain amount of post processing. Your photo will not be exactly as you saw it at a scene - it may be very close, but to an expert discerning eye, perhaps your RAW image file needs a touch more contrast to represent the scene as it was truly seen.

Also keep in mind that everyone interprets scenes differently than you do.

If you shoot in JPEG format - guess what? Your camera is post-processing your photo. :D

And lastly - the first part of taking the photo is the taking of the photo itself. The second part, and I believe this is an Ansel Adams quote (forgive me if I have misquoted) "performing the photo." The post processing is where you can put your personal touch on the photo, whether it be subtle or loud.

I find it bewildering that people point out that Photoshop was used during the post processing process in such a negative way. I think it's pretty obnoxious to criticize someone's art, simply to insult and not help in the long run.  Also, post processing has always been a part of photography.

So, in case you were never taught - 'if you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all." Although, if critique was requested, fire away ;)

Whew! Okay /rantover.

Here's a cute kitten to make up for the rant:

Quick Update

Life has been very, very busy lately. I have been getting on deviantART just about every day, though I am not spending as much time I was on it. I bought a car today, because our truck is a little bit crazy expensive to run with these new gas prices. So, I opted for something with a little more fuel efficiency.

Running a company takes up a lot of time. I have been lucky to get out shooting once a week, though I am hoping to get out more often as it becomes warmer...we'll see. Summer time seems to fly by very quickly up here.

I will be doing my AM Inspiration Features on and off, basically with the same rhythm that they've been coming out. Which is fairly unpredictable at the moment  but I plan to continue them indefinitely!

I think I have some photos I want to process and upload, and I definitely will as soon as I find the time. I'm going to be on - I promise! I just may respond slower to comments and watches than usual. I really appreciate all the support! Thank you guys! And girls, of course.

I'm one of those who don't like to post processing a photo. The only thing I do is crop in some cases. But as you said, photography is an expression very personal. I've seen many photographs that I know were post processed and I love them. I don't get upset about the fact other photographers do it. Each person has their own ways to achieve the results desired in their works. So, let's relax and have fun!!
